History of MGM Hotel Las Vegas
This property was originally the Golf Club Motel during the 1960s. In 1972, it was co-founded by Tom Wiesner in the Southwest Securities Development and later transformed into a Wiesner Investment Company. By November 1973, Southwest Securities planned the Airport Marina Hotel and thereby built it at the site of the 170-room Golf Club Motel and placed it near the Airport. It was afterward renovated and another 14 storied was built which accommodated 518 rooms. Fred Harvey Company served and operated the hotel cum resort.
The 700-room MGM Marina Hotel which was previously built by Wiesner Investment Company was opened in 1975. This got closed on November 30, 1990, and was broken to build a new casino complex on October 7, 1991. This Marina Hotel still stands as the west wing of the main hotel.
Attractions
MGM Grand has a glass cage of 5,000 sq. ft. inhabited by six lions. There is a see-through tunnel to get a closer view of the lions moving on the glass top and allowing the people to walk beneath them. But this habitat was closed forever on January 31, 2012, as a part of the renovation.
